Penguins Don’t Send Postcards is a hand-illustrated picture book loved by children of all ages. It is particularly relevant for reluctant readers as Jeanette has drawn the pictures to tell a slightly different and deeper story. It is a tale of adaption and survival, made possible with a little help from friends.
This is the story of a lone tawaki, one of the rarest penguins in the world.
When he was injured and unable to forage for food or swim he drifted on ocean currents which took him to a beach in the far North of New Zealand. Tawaki inhabit the Southwest and Southern Islands of New Zealand. This penguin was far from his land based home. Penguins Don’t Send Postcards is the story of the journey home.
